Emerald

Well! what a week its been for the developers of the incredibly popular Second Life Emerald Viewer from Developer Modular Systems. One developer leaves in a flurry of controversy, and a new recruit to Emerald is signed on, the highly regarded and respected Ex Linden Qarl Linden/Qarl Fizz or Karl Stiefvater in RL.
There is little doubt that while the official Viewer 2.0 from Linden Lab has failed spectacularly, the more complex and “old school” style Emerald viewer has been climbing and climbing in popularity and including many features that no other viewer has.
This Sunday at Northpoint, I’m interviewing Emerald’s owner Fractured Crystal and PR Rep for the team, Arabella Steadham on Tonight Live. What motivates them? How and why is Emerald doing so well? What their thoughts are on Linden Lab’s failure to produce a viewer that people actually want to use? I’ll also be asking, should we trust the Emerald team in light of the recent revelations by Ex Emerald Developer LordGreggreg? Are they concerned with the new direction that L.L claim to be taking with their Snowstorm viewer?
I will try to include questions from the audience in this interview, being as Im certainly NOT a developer and have no expertise in viewer developement, but as a fan and user of Emerald (like most of the viewers), Im keen to know what’s going on, am I safe using this viewer now? What is Karl going to be doing? Also… we at T.L have been told there may be an announcement or two on this Sundays show from the team, so make sure you tune in.

We also talk to the face of Second Life Keiko Takamura..The picture above should explain why I call Keiko that… Keiko has been on Tonight Live and Live n Kickin previously, she is without doubt the highest profile Second Life Musician in real life, appearing on several MTV shows, and being featured as the face of Second Life on these ads that have appeared on You Tube, Avatars United, XStreet and many other places. Keiko has gone from being one of the shyest performers in SL and in R.L to forming her own band working real life gigs, and now just releasing her new album with her Band the Shebangs! How did Second Life help her to acheive such success?

Can high quality Art really get seen and appreciated in Second Life if it can never be shown to a large scale public who are restricted to PG or G rated work?
You might remember this exhibit by Rose Borchovski (above) if you visited the Second Life 7th Birthday celebration in Second Life early enough. This work titled “The Kiss” was banned by Linden Lab because it did not fit into the category set by them for the birthday celebration. No explanation was ever given to Rose Borchovski by Linden Lab for the banning, even though she pursued it several times with them directly. I’d like Rose’s thoughts on Linden Lab’s decision to ban this work, and on her thoughts on what she perceives as the problem with restricting large scale Second Life exhibits to G rated content.
M Linden had his detractors but he was a champion for Art in Second Life and now with him gone, and the focus on *F.E.F what is the future of serious Art like Rose’s Exhibit in Second Life?
Rose has an extraordinary Sim in SL that tells the story of Susa Bubble a character she has created an entire story and artwork around. In real life Rose Borchovski is a multi media Artist and Director and has quite an extraordinary exhibit coming up in real life she will talk to us about.

Someone once commented that SL is like a 3D chatroom with bad graphics. Whether you think so or not, graphics are everything. Obviously, there are aspects about graphics we have no control over. You cannot control the hardware used to view the graphics and the quality of the picture on the other end, for example. BUT you can do a great deal to make the experience for participants a lot more effective.

People come into SL for business. We know that. I wonder how many of them come and go? They show up, pick up their Avi at the door, and disappear again as soon as their meetings are done, the class is over, etc. How many do we engage?

Do they see the possibilities? Do we use that time to capture their minds and imaginations? The word is “immersive.”

People have to be engaged in order to invest.

What better way then to begin with the avatar? Dressing properly and looking good is not rocket science but it does take a while to learn all the ins and outs. We have people who give away great clothes, we have people who help teach how to find and do things but Angie Mornington, SL’s answer to Rachel Zoe, is going to break it down and put it all together in a way that only Angie can do.

We start our sojourn with needing to fit in, blend in, and not look stupid, in our teens and it seems to ride with us the rest of our lives. The last thing any aspiring or successful business person wants to do is come into an environment where they go from chic to geek in a couple of clicks. Comfortable, confident, and intrigued … this should be our goal to ensure everyone who shows up here has the invitation to join in and share this amazing world.

The 3rd Anniversary Party was Swell!

Society Page…um sorta…

Texas Timtam from Treet.tv and Crap Mariner blogger, storyteller, podcaster and S.L funny man, attended and both wore a dress…not the same one.. they each had their own separate ones…hmmm didn’t Crap wear one of my gowns to a show? was that him?

Freddy my RL hubby turned up in a new suit! and no we did not play any music. (we never go anywhere together in S.L we bicker too much…)

Nexeus Fatale was the DJ for this shindig and he played some really cool tunes.

The party was arranged by the PWP team with Bliss and Angie and Del taking the starring roles..Del is the grey one you can see with the strange flesh coloured feet..The grey hat matched her stunning outfit beautifully, nope she did not rez all night…and Angie Mornington was there dressed as a rather deadly flower, get too close and you will bitten by her pet spiders…or feel the sting of her tongue either one can be very painful…believe me!….Bliss was all in silver looking her usual hollywood glam self, (she looks like that every day) imagine living with that!

Menubar Memorial one of our stallwart audience members, swung by he had made a very swish award that was given to me as a present to compensate for the Emmy I missed out on again this year, not to mention even a nod from the Streamy Awards…well get there next year ok!!! bribes are already being organised.

The 1st Musician Astrin Few turned up (cause he had to he wouldn’t have been allowed on the show on Sunday if he didn’t)…Texas and Wiz the grand poo bahs of Treet.tv Graced and Gary’d us with their presents…(um where is my present???)  and Wiz told us the weirdest joke…I’m still trying to figure it out..very obscure…something about 3am camping and constipation…

The world famous musician Craig Lyons and his crew were there, with the paparazzi following close behind…and Kit Guardian Theatre owner and Director was there also,…..The talk deteriotated very quickly as you can imagine from Native Australian animals that bite and kill, (well just about every annimal in Australia is designed to do that)  to toilets and constipation…and sex y’know the usual faire…

Chestnut Rau from New World Notes was there, looking green…I mean wearing a luscious green gown!.

Yxes Delacroix was there to pick up her I was there at the start and we fought like cat and dog award….grins.

Ok, OK!!!! so Im no social writer!! I have no gossip…and won’t divulge who left with who and who fell over drunk…ummm was that me?

This is my rather awkward way of acknowledging the effort made to hold the party and to point out we had so much fun and those that were invited and didn’t come… well wow you missed the party of the decade! and don’t you now feel bad!

Lots of people there who I haven’t mentioned cause you were all so badly behaved it would only embarrass you…

Um sorry…its my party and I’ll flail like an idiot if I want too…

Perfect World Productions who produce “Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe”, “Fabulous Fashion with Angie Mornington” and “Live n Kickin” three Top Rated TV shows filmed in Second Life, is looking for a technical assistant trainee.

We are looking for someone who has hosted events in Second Life, to work on 2 of our TV shows helping with Sound checks & Directing our TV shows.

You will need

1. More than a years experience in Second Life
2. A strong understanding and experience of using Voice and helping with Sound and Music in Second Life.
3. Experiance with arranging Events and hosting them in Second Life.
4. A good understanding of settings and preferences in both the New and Old viewers in Second Live.
5. A good understanding of  Second Life foibles, lag, crashing etc…
6. You need to be a great people person, patience and a great sense of humor a must!

• You will be trained and expected to do at least 3-4 weeks of unpaid internship.
• After internship payment starts at 3,000L per week.

Paisley Beebe is the Creator Producer/Host of the very first TV show filmed in Second Life® Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe was first filmed, live, on June 25th 2007. The first show included guests Jeffronius Batra Evangalist from Amazon.com, Natalia Basait Dress Designer, and Musician Heath Elvehjam.

Paisley Beebe (Leonie Smith in RL) is a true pioneer in virtual television production.  With a solid determination and an unwavering vision, Paisley broke new ground and created a level of entertainment production that had not been seen before on any virtual platform.  Her achievements have rightfully earned her both the loyalty of her fans and the respect her peers.

Her hit show “Tonight Live” is seen in the virtual world of Second Life Live during filming at the Tonight Live Studio, and then later on TV sets all over S.L, as well as online by thousands of viewers each week.  The “Tonight Live” show was the first TV show filmed in Second Life, and along with it’s broadcaster Treet TV, set the standard for quality entertainment in virtual television production. Paisley’s show was the first to use voice with Lip Sync, the first to be filmed with 3 cameras simultaneously and many of Paisley’s and Treet.tv’s innovations in film production are now used by most TV shows here in Second Life.

There are so many talented photographers and graphic artists out there and we would love to see what you come up with!

Fabulous Fashion with Angie Mornington is the only fashion talk show filmed in Second Life and broadcast on Treet TV.

It’s time for a brand new logo, one that is stylish, chic, and matches Angie’s fun personality as television host.

We want a logo that fully personifies and represents Fabulous Fashion, which has been in production since October 2008 and is one of the highest rated TV shows in Second Life.

The logo has to be FABULOUS!

Winner receives $15,000L, and permanent on screen credit “Logo Created by…” for the life of the logo.

Your winning logo will be the official Fabulous Fashion Logo which will be televised and seen on air by thousands of viewers every week.
